DENSO to hold Fith International Education Program

( DENSO Youth for Earth Action)

 - Participants from Six ASEAN countries and Japan will be invited -

Laguna (Philippines) – DENSO Corporation will hold its fifth international educational program called, “DENSO YOUTH for EARTH Action,” (DYEA) in six ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries ― Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Singapore ― and Japan. The program, which is co-sponsored by the Japan Environmental Education Forum, encourages young people to become actively involved in creating a sustainable society with a broad insight that encompasses diverse viewpoints.

This year, the program will have approximately 20 youths from each country. Participants will study environmental issues in their own countries, and learn how to improve their problem-identification skills through on-site curriculum and discussions.

Three participants from each country will be selected, based on their action plans created through the program, to further participate in an on-site program in the Tokai regions of Japan, where DENSO’s headquarters is located for approximately 10 days in October. The selected participants  will learn how to balance economic developments with environmental preservation, and consider the ideal image of a sustainable society in Asia.

Based on what they learn, the participants will formulate an action plan for attaining a sustainable society in their own communities and present their ideas at an Action Plan Contest in each country from December, 2012 – January, 2013. Their action plans will be examined, and one or more plans from each country’s participants will receive an excellent award. DENSO will then offer a broad range of assistance such as providing employee volunteers and consultation for one year to help the individual award winners to carry out the plans. I

In the fourth program, which was implemented last year, 19 undergraduate and graduate students and other young adults from six ASEAN countries participated in an on-site program in Indonesia. They learned about how an environmental non-governmental organization (NGO) and local residents are restoring coral reefs and protecting sea turtles in Pulau Seribu National Park. In Jakarta, they studied how Astra International, DENSO’s business partner in Indonesia, is restoring polluted rivers and reducing and recycling waste. They also gained an understanding of how an NGO is promoting fair trade practices.

After the on-site program, the participants presented their own action plans at a Action Plan Contests in their respective countries, and award winners have received a broad range of assistance to implement their plans. DENSO Corporation, headquartered in Kariya, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, is a leading global supplier of advanced technology, systems and components.
